The City of Mission Viejo is implementing another goat-grazing program as part of its ongoing wildfire prevention and vegetation management efforts.
The approach uses goats to reduce excess vegetation, particularly non-native grasses and weeds that can contribute to increased fire risk. Prescribed grazing is recognized as an effective, environmentally sustainable method for fuel reduction, especially in areas where steep terrain or sensitive habitats limit the use of traditional mechanical equipment.

As part of the annual Great California ShakeOut, the City of Mission Viejo will test its mass-notification system AlertOC with calls, texts and emails to residents at 10:16 a.m. on October 16. The drill will replicate a big earthquake requiring thousands of numbers to be called simultaneously.

Volunteers will have the chance to embrace nature by planting trees and shrubs along the section of Oso Creek Trail that is north of Jeronimo Road. Participants should wear a hat, gloves, boots and sunscreen. Lunch and ice cream will be available for volunteers while supplies last.
