The City and Waste Management are teaming up to host a free composting workshop at 10 am on Saturday, April 11 in The Kershaw Garden at Mission Viejo City Hall. The workshop will be between an hour to an hour and 30 minutes.

Residents can learn how to turn their yard and food waste into organic fertilizer through traditional composting or vermi-composting. Compost and vermi-composting containers will be available for Mission Viejo residents to purchase or order at a significant discount.

Caltrans District 12 has started work on a project – beginning with temporarily removing a travel lane in each direction along Oso Parkway – that is located primarily along the I-5 Freeway between the San Juan Capistrano and Irvine.

The public can bring broken items to fix on the spot with the help of voluntary fixers during the Repair Cafe OC event from 5:30 to 9:30 pm Wednesday, February 25 in the Palo Verde Room at the Norman P. Murray Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

This initiative promotes repair as an alternative to tossing things away. Bring your broken lamps, bikes with a wobble or jeans with a hole – and repair volunteers will help you fix them.

The City of Mission Viejo is hosting its annual Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration with a planting and Green Expo from 8 am to noon on Saturday, April 25.

The City of Mission Viejo is seeking exhibitors for its annual Green Expo on Saturday, April 25. 

Exhibitors with an environmental product, service or message to share with the community are invited to take part in the expo as part of the Earth Day/Arbor Day event from 8 am to noon Saturday, April 25 on Oso Creek Trail between Jeronimo Road and Casta Del Sol.  

The public can bring broken items to fix on the spot with the help of voluntary fixers during the Repair Cafe OC event on Wednesday, February 25 from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the Palo Verde Room at the Norman P. Murray Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

The City of Mission Viejo Public Works Department is requesting proposals from qualified, experienced consultants to assist in updating the City’s Citywide Pavement Management Program (PMP). The updated PMP will identify the needs of the network, establish cost-effective priorities for making improvements, and develop a long-range program (one to seven years) for implementation.

The City is partnering with Waste Management to host a free drive-through E-Waste & Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday, March 28 from 9 to 11 am in the City Hall parking lot. This event will provide residents with a free, safe and convenient way to properly dispose of hazardous items.

Proof of residency will be required with a valid identification card and residents must remain in their vehicle at all times. No business waste or walk-ups will be permitted. There is a limit of 125 pounds or 15 gallons per vehicle, and each container must not exceed 5 gallons.

Mission Viejo residents and businesses can destroy their sensitive documents during the free drive-through Document Shredding event on Saturday, March 21.

Hosted by Waste Management and the City's Public Works Department, the event is from 9 to 11 am (or until truck capacity is reached) in the Mission Viejo City Hall parking lot at 200 Civic Center.

Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the nation, and shredding documents with personal or financial information can be an effective measure of prevention.
