Professor Stump

Here at Mission Viejo Animal Services, we strive to find the best fit of family for every animal in our care.  Sometimes we don't get it right with our first attempt.  In Professor Stump's case it took four families before he had his pawfect home.

Professor Stump came to us in December of 2023 from the Riverside Shelter.  Staff immediately fell in love with his short stature and even bigger personality.  He thrived in his big dog energy, loved walks, but could pull so definitely needed someone who was prepared for more shepherd than corgi.  We definitely knew he was high energy and could be mouthy when that excitement didn't have proper redirection and let all of his adopters know.  Yet time and time again he was returned to us with the same feedback, he's too high energy, and can get mouthy.

But as with all our success stories this one has a happy ending.  Professor Stump ended up with an owner who was ready for the high energy shepherd side, acknowledged there was some training to be done, and gave him the time he needed.  And now 6 months into his forever home we have this great update to share!

"I want to thank you for letting me adopt Stump. I still don’t understand how he was returned a couple of times. He has been such a great dog, enjoys playing with other dogs around the neighborhood & the dog park. No issues with him at all."
