Nomination Period for November 3, 2026 Election
The City Clerk will issue Nomination Papers and Candidate Handbooks during the nomination period, which is Monday, July 13, 2026 through Friday, August 7, 2026. All required documents are to be filed before 5 pm on Friday, August 7, 2026.
To qualify as a candidate you must be:
At least 18 year old;
A U.S. Citizen; and
Registered to vote in the City of Mission Viejo.
Candidates must be a registered voted in the District they reside in at the time nomination papers are issued and shall remain a resident in that District and a qualified elector of said District throughout their candidacy and term of office (GC 34882, 36502, and EC 201).
Candidate Getting Started Information
Public Information: Becoming a candidate for public office means that information about you will become a matter of public record. With a few exceptions, this includes any and all documents submitted to the City during the course of the election. Consequently, these documents must, by law, be available to the public for inspection and/or copying.
Register to Vote
Are you registered to vote? You must re-register if you:
- Move
- Change your name
- Change your party affiliation
Eligible residents 18 years and older can register to vote online.
