Cynthia Vasquez, MBA, was elected to the Mission Viejo City Council in November 2022 for a four-year term. She is the first representative for District 3 in the City’s inaugural district elections. Her priorities focus on public safety, enhancing quality of life, fiscal responsibility, and driving economic development.
Cynthia has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety and traffic management. Her initiatives include advocating for intersection improvements throughout Mission Viejo, including the installation of a refuge lane on Marguerite Parkway at La Sierra Drive (2026).
She also advocates for lower speed limits near schools, increasing crossing guards, adding marked crosswalks near parks and schools, and installing a protective fence around Napoli Park (2023). Additionally, Cynthia supports expanding the free Mission Viejo shuttle service to assist students and parents, reduce traffic congestion, and improve access to community events. She maintains communication with local schools and residents to ensure ongoing collaboration.
Cynthia is committed to promoting mental health and wellness and supports programs and initiatives that complement Mission Viejo’s strong environmental efforts. She emphasizes transparency and accountability in managing taxpayer dollars. She brings a thoughtful approach to decision-making—balancing facts and data with what delivers the greatest value to the community.
As a leader in fiscal responsibility, Cynthia supports self-sustaining programs. Among her notable achievements, she helped organize Mission Viejo Pride in 2024 and 2025. The first event raised more than $18,000, and the second raised over $25,000. Each event welcomed nearly 2,000 attendees, featured more than 40 booths, and secured over 15 sponsors. Cynthia is proud to support programs and events for veterans, minorities, individuals with disabilities, religious groups, and the LGBTQ+ community—reflecting the true character and diversity of Mission Viejo.
Community service has been a lifelong passion for Cynthia, beginning with her years as a Girl Scout. She continues to lead by example as a Troop Leader and Cookie Mom, instilling these values in her daughters. She also volunteers regularly to support school and community programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cynthia played a crucial role as the Mission Viejo distribution center for the Healthcare Mask Collaborative (HMC). She not only sewed hundreds of cloth face masks but also managed the distribution point, helping to ensure that over 65,000 masks were distributed to 150 organizations.
Cynthia holds an MBA from the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from George Washington University. She works in legal technology and has served on multiple industry boards, mentored professionals, and spoken at conferences on topics such as women’s empowerment and technology adoption.
A Southern California native, Cynthia and her husband, Alan, have lived in Mission Viejo since 2011. Married for over 20 years, they have two children who attend local public schools. Alan is a healthcare provider, and together they are proud to call Mission Viejo home.
