Set sail at the Viking Cardboard Boat Derby
Gather your crew and prepare to conquer the pool at the viking-themed Cardboard Boat Derby on Saturday, August 1 from 2 to 6 pm at the Montanoso Recreation Center.
Build your own cardboard boat, choose your viking captain, and race for glory in an afternoon of family-friendly competition. Whether your ship sails to victory or sinks in spectacular fashion, it's sure to be an unforgettable event. Refreshments will be provided for participants and spectators to enjoy throughout the day.

Second Time Around Jewelry and Accessories Sale returns August 21-22
The Mission Viejo Senior Leadership Committee is hosting the annual Second Time Around Jewelry and Accessories sale August 21-22 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.
The sale takes place on Friday, August 21 from 1 to 5 pm and Saturday, August 22 from 9 am to 2 pm. All proceeds benefit senior services in Mission Viejo.
Shop used necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, broaches, watches, scarves, gloves, hats, belts, wallets, purses, ties, men's accessories and more. Thousands of items will be available with the majority priced $1 to $5. A special high-end section will feature pearls, sterling silver, precious stones, and designer pieces starting at $10. New merchandise will be added on Saturday.
Admission is free, cash and cards will be accepted. For the best shopping experience, bring a small purse as large purses and backpacks are not permitted

Register now for the 4th Annual Paddle for the Battle Pickleball Tournament
The American Cancer Society's Paddle for the Battle and the City of Mission Viejo will host a doubles team round-robin Pickleball Tournament Saturday, August 22 at the Felipe Tennis and Recreation Center.
Standard divisions will feature a four- or five-game guarantee. This spectator-friendly event will submit scores to DUPR and registration is only $100 per team.
The tournament will include two adaptive brackets to this year’s event from 10 am to 1 pm for Wheelchair and Para standing athletes. These unique brackets will have players register as individuals for doubles play with a rotating partner. Wheelchair and Para Standing athletes can register for a discounted rate of $40 per player.

Live Music on The Deck
Jabe Amato joins us for the final summer Music on The Deck series at the Montanoso Fitness and Recreation Center on Saturday, August 15 from 1 to 4 pm. Jabe performs as a one-man band playing multiple genres including classic rock and tunes from the '80s and '90s.
The Deck offers outdoor lounging by the 25-yard heated pool and jacuzzi. Recreation Center members enjoy free admission, and non-members can also attend by purchasing a day guest pass. Adult (14 and older) guest passes are $10, and child (3 months to 13 years) guest passes are $5 and can be purchased at the front desk.

Learn, Dance and Sing into Fall

Mrs. K's Kindergarten Days
For ages 4-6, this class is tailored exclusively for young learners. This engaging program focuses on enhancing reading, language arts, and mathematics skills in a fun and interactive environment. Class takes place at the Norman P. Murray Center on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to noon. Cost is $160.
Music Together
For age 4 and younger, this class entails families participating together in songs, rhythmic activities, movement, and instrumental jam sessions. This class meets on Tuesdays at 9 am at the Norman P. Murray Center. Cost is $105.
Princess Ballet
For ages 3-6, this class promotes coordination, flexibility and poise while learning ballet with a princess twist. Class takes place at the Norman P. Murray Center on Monday from 3:30 to 4:15 pm.
Teaching Tech 101: Free One-on-One Technology Help
Need help with your smartphone, tablet, or smartwatch? The student volunteers of Teaching Tech 101, a service club from Capistrano Valley High School, are here to help. Their mission is to connect generations by solving tech problems one conversation at a time. Whether you have a question about your device, need help with an app, or want assistance learning a new feature, these knowledgeable students are ready to provide patient one-on-one support.
Appointments are available on Wednesday, August 5 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center located at 24932 Veterans Way. This free service is available by appointment only. To reserve your spot, call 949-470-3062.
Welcome basket donations for new Marines and Sailors at Camp Pendleton
Support the City’s adopted Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton by donating welcome basket items for new entry-level Marines joining the barracks.
New items sought:

- Queen Pillow
- Cleaning Products
- Laundry Products
- Boxed or Bagged Snacks
- Bath Towel Set (towel, hand towel, and washcloth)
The Committee has a Target wish list you can locate on target.com by using “Mission Viejo” as the first name and “Marine Adoption Committee” as the last name in the wish list search fields.
