The City Council on Tuesday, September 8 will raise much-needed awareness of important issues facing residents throughout the region and state.
The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
Council Members will present a proclamation recognizing Wildfire Awareness and Prevention Season. Considering the 200-acre “Gibby Fire” that broke out near Ortega Highway in unincorporated Orange County on Wednesday, the need for public education and current, coordinated regional emergency planning efforts is essential to building more resilient communities and preparing residents for the impacts of wildfires and other extreme weather events. Residents can learn more through the Orange County Fire Authority’s Ready, Set, Go! page and sign up for AlertOC, a mass notification system designed to keep the public informed of wildfires, earthquakes and other local emergencies.
The Council will also proclaim September as Hunger Action Month, highlighting the urgent challenges of hunger and poverty across the state. Approximately 22% of California households—and 27% of households with children—experience food insecurity, underscoring the critical need to ensure all Californians have reliable access to nutritious food.
City Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Spectrum Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
